School District U-46 Calendar 2027-2028

Five geographic high schools—Bartlett, Elgin, Larkin, South Elgin, and Streamwood—anchor enrollment across the eleven communities served by School District U-46. Elementary and middle-school assignments lead into those residence-based high-school zones, but the district’s size and municipal overlap make a postal city or earlier school name an unreliable substitute for the current locator.

Each comprehensive high school also houses a magnet academy with its own academic theme and application process. Larkin hosts the Visual and Performing Arts Academy, while Streamwood hosts LEAD—Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Action, and Design—and the other high schools have their own academies.

Students may apply to an academy outside the high school assigned by residence; an accepted academy seat changes the instructional campus, not the family’s underlying attendance boundary. Rejection or withdrawal returns the geographic home-school rule to the foreground.

Dual language and other district programs create further placements at earlier grades. Current entry rules determine those routes; a presumed feeder guarantee does not. U-46 runs two overlapping systems: a large address-based network connecting elementary, middle, and five comprehensive high schools, and selective program routes that can cross those lines for a defined purpose. A magnet academy is neither a sixth high school nor a general transfer right among the five campuses.
