About Champaign Unit 4 School District
Champaign Unit 4 cannot be read from a conventional elementary boundary map alone. Kindergarten families use the Student Assignment Process, rank school choices, and receive proximity status from the home address. Proximity affects priority but does not guarantee a school; capacity, preferences, and assignment rules shape the offer.
Most K–5 placements carry a later feeder relationship. Bottenfield, Booker T. Washington STEM Academy, and Westview feed Edison; Barkstall, Carrie Busey, and Dr. Howard feed Franklin STEAM Academy; Kenwood, Robeson, Stratton, and South Side feed Jefferson. The school offered in the elementary process influences the ordinary middle-school route.
Garden Hills Academy and International Prep Academy are PK–8 exceptions that bypass the three-middle-school pattern. High school introduces another geographic decision through the Central and Centennial attendance areas.
