About Joliet Public Schools District 86
Joliet Public Schools District 86 serves prekindergarten through eighth grade, and its 2026–27 directory reflects two different kinds of physical change. Gompers and Hufford continue under the same school names in new junior-high buildings; their facilities changed while the school identities and student communities continued.
A.O. Marshall Elementary followed another path. It closed at the end of 2025–26, and students from its former attendance area were reassigned to Isaac Singleton. An archived directory can make two opposite errors—sending a household to an old Gompers or Hufford building, or treating Marshall as if it were still operating.
District 86 also operates two paired magnet structures. Academy programming is housed at Eisenhower and Washington Junior High, while Individual Education (I.E.) is housed at Forest Park and Hufford. Eisenhower’s 2026–27 application covered limited openings in grades 1–5 and required district residency together with academic and behavior criteria. Current public pages identify the four program sites, but they do not publish one shared admission rule for every Academy and I.E. placement.
