Waukegan Community Unit School District 60 Calendar 2026-2027

Waukegan High School is one grades 9–12 institution operating across two grade-based campuses. Current registration materials direct ninth- and tenth-grade students to Brookside and eleventh- and twelfth-grade students to Washington. The annual move is part of the Waukegan High School sequence, not a residence choice between two comprehensive high schools.

Elementary choice works differently. Lyon combines a neighborhood program with application seats available to students from elsewhere in District 60; the 2026 cycle advertised kindergarten openings and limited places in grades 1–5. Andrew Cooke is a fine-arts-focused magnet serving the elementary grades through its own application and student-placement process. Lyon brings neighborhood and choice students into the same building, while Cooke uses a separate magnet entry.

These elementary admissions decisions do not create different high-school destinations. Students coming from neighborhood schools, Lyon, Cooke, or another approved program ultimately enter the same Waukegan High School and follow the Brookside-to-Washington grade sequence. An elementary seat may come from an address or application, while the high-school campus is determined by grade level.
