Kankakee School District 111 Calendar 2026-2027

Kankakee’s lower grades are organized by program as much as by address. Taft combines K–1 general education with a K–3 science magnet. Edison houses third-grade general education and a K–3 engineering-and-design magnet, while Mark Twain combines preschool, second-grade general education, and K–3 two-way dual language. The school name alone does not identify the admission rule or the grade sequence a student is using.

Steuben adds Math, Inc. and one-way dual language. Lincoln Cultural Center carries two longer specialty routes: K–8 Montessori and a K–3 fine-arts magnet. In grades 4–6, King and Kennedy Middle Grade Schools combine general education with continuing magnet and language themes. Montessori students remain at Lincoln through eighth grade; most other routes later meet at Kankakee Junior High for grades 7–8 and Kankakee High for grades 9–12.

Magnet participation uses the district’s annual SchoolMint process, with conditions that differ by program. Avis Huff Student Support Services Center belongs to another part of the system, housing Independence Academy for grades 7–12 and transition services. District 111 uses program-specific entry points and grade configurations that gradually converge instead of repeating one feeder chain across every campus.
