Ball-Chatham Community Unit School District 5 Calendar 2026-2027

Ball-Chatham Community Unit School District 5 uses two different entry systems before students reach the common secondary route. Ball Elementary houses all district Pre-K and Early Childhood programs. Children ages three through five who live within district boundaries use a developmental screening process to determine entry into Pre-K, so preschool placement is districtwide and eligibility-based rather than an extension of the K–4 neighborhood map.

Beginning with kindergarten, Ball, Chatham, and Glenwood elementary schools each serve a K–4 attendance area identified by address and subdivision. A child who attends a districtwide program at Ball before kindergarten does not thereby acquire a Ball K–4 assignment; the preschool site and the neighborhood elementary school are determined through different processes.

The three elementary communities merge in fifth grade at Glenwood Intermediate School, continue to Glenwood Middle School for grades 7–8, and finish at Glenwood High School. Ball-Chatham's roughly 100-square-mile territory is geographically divided during K–4, but grade level alone determines the campus from fifth grade onward.
