McLean County Unit 5 Calendar 2026-2027

No McLean County Unit 5 junior high feeds exclusively into one high school. The district covers Normal, parts of Bloomington, and a wide suburban and rural area; its elementary network reaches four junior highs, and each junior-high community is divided between Normal Community High School and Normal Community West High School.

The secondary route is unusual because every Unit 5 junior high sends students to both high schools. A junior-high name cannot serve as a shortcut for the final campus.

The high-school split follows residence boundaries within each junior-high population. Students who have shared the same junior high can separate in ninth grade, while students from different junior highs can meet at the same high school. Unit 5’s current feeder and address materials are more useful than a simple “this junior high goes to that high school” list.

Attendance exceptions may also place a K–8 student outside the assigned address school when the district approves a request and enrollment conditions permit. That decision does not automatically carry forward to the high-school boundary. Unit 5 has also been studying enrollment, building use, and long-term capacity. Planning presentations and scenario work remain distinct from the current route until the board adopts a change and identifies an effective year.
