Springfield Public Schools District 186 Calendar 2026-2027

A single Springfield school building can contain students admitted under different rules. Iles illustrates how Public Schools District 186 combines neighborhood attendance schools with selective gifted and magnet programs.

Its primary-years International Baccalaureate program serves grades 1–5, while the Iles gifted magnet serves grades 1–8. A reference to “Iles School” is incomplete unless it also identifies the program and admission basis.

The distinction continues at middle school. Lincoln Magnet School and the gifted program at Franklin receive students through acceptance processes; other students attend the middle school assigned to their residence. Official transition notices direct families either to the boundary middle school or to the school named in an acceptance letter. Admission to Iles, Lincoln, or Franklin gifted programming cannot be inferred from proximity, and one selective placement does not automatically promise the next.

District 186 also operates address-assigned elementary, middle, and high-school routes across Springfield, along with alternative and specialized services. At Iles, Franklin, and similar sites, the building name alone does not identify why a student is there. Residence, gifted identification, or magnet acceptance controls the placement, and each decision follows its own rules.
